Questions
Where does this list come from?
The City of Chicago building permits dataset (data.cityofchicago.org, ydr8-5enu). Look up any permit number on the city portal.
How often is it updated?
Weekly. The page shows the latest 7 days the city has published; the Updated line at the top shows the date.
What does "new to Chicago" mean?
The contractor business pulled a permit in these 7 days but had no Chicago permit in the 12 months before.
Is there homeowner or personal contact information?
No. Business and property data only: home addresses are hidden (job address shown only for commercial permits), no homeowner names, no person names and no phone numbers. Contractor names that look like a person, not a business, are left out. For marketing and market research use, not a consumer report under the FCRA. If you market by phone, text or email, you are responsible for TCPA, Do-Not-Call and CAN-SPAM compliance.
Can I get other cities?
Yes. The paid weekly file covers Austin, Chicago, Cincinnati, New Orleans and Mesa, with the same columns plus busy-contractor flags and expiring-permit lists. Las Vegas is not covered today. Free weekly pages for every city: see Other cities below.
How is residential or commercial decided?
Residential or commercial comes from the Cook County Assessor property class of the permit parcel; blank if unknown.
